The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
