We gave Moses the Book and appointed his brother Aaron as his counsellor: 35 then We said to them, "Go to the people who have treated Our Revelations as false. " So We annihilated those people utterly. 36 We drowned the people of Noah also when they rejected their messengers and We made them an example to all mankind. We have prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers, 37 to 'Ad, and Thamud, and the people of al-Rass, and as We did for the many a generation between them. 38 And We illustrated examples to each one of them; and ruining them, annihilated them all. 39 And the (Unbelievers) must indeed have passed by the town on which was rained a shower of evil: did they not then see it (with their own eyes)? But they fear not the Resurrection. 40 And when they see you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) they take you but as a mockery, “Is this the one whom Allah sent as a (Noble) Messenger?” 41 Wellnigh he had led us astray from our gods, but that we kept steadfast to them.' Assuredly they shall know, when they see the chastisement, who is further astray from the way. 42 Have you seen the one who takes as his god his own desire? Then would you be responsible for him? 43 Do you think that most of them listen and understand? They are like cattle or even more, straying and confused. 44
