AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When they came in to him, and said, "Salam, (peace be upon you)!" He answered; "Salam, (peace be upon you)," and said: "You are a people unknown to me," 25 Then he turned quickly to his household, and brought a fatted calf, 26 And placing it before them said: "Won't you eat?" 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! and gave him tidings of (the birth of) a wise son. 28 Then came forward his wife, clamouring, and she smote her face, and said, 'An old woman, barren!' 29 They answered: "Thus has thy Sustainer decreed; and verily, He alone is truly wise, all-knowing!" 30 ۞ Said [Abraham]: "And what [else] may you have in view, O you [heavenly] messengers?" 31 They said: Surely we are sent to a guilty people, 32 To send down upon them stones of baked clay. 33 “That are kept marked, with your Lord, for the transgressors.” 34 We saved the believers among them, 35 But We found in it only one household of those who had surrendered themselves, 36 We left a sign in this for those who fear the grievous punishment, 37 And also in Moses, when We sent him unto Pharaoh, with a clear authority, 38 But (Pharaoh) turned back with his Chiefs, and said, "A sorcerer, or one possessed!" 39 We seized him and his hosts, and cast them all into the sea: and [none but Pharaoh] himself was to blame [for what happened]. 40 There is another sign in the [tribe of] 'Ad, when We sent against them a life-destroying wind 41 that left nothing it came upon, except that it was ashes. 42 And in Thamud, when We said to them: "Enjoy yourselves for a while;" 43 Then they disdained the command of their Lord; wherefore the bolt laid hold of them even while they looked on. 44 So they were not able to stand, nor could they help themselves. 45 [We destroyed] the people of Noah before them. They were certainly a sinful people. 46
