The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 And the House frequented, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
