The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
