The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
