The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 Life is not but our worldly life - we die and live, but we will not be resurrected. 37 He is but a man who hath fabricated against God a lie, and in him we are not going to be believers. 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 He said: In a little while they surely will become repentant. 40 So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people! 41 Then We produced after them other generations. 42 No nation will precede its time [of termination], nor will they remain [thereafter]. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made Mary's son, and his mother, a Sign, and We gave them refuge on a lofty ground, a peaceful site with springs flowing in it. 50
