If thou couldst but see [how it will be on Judgment Day,] when those who are lost in sin will hang their heads before their Sustainer, [saying:] "O our Sustainer! [Now] we have seen, and we have heard! Return us, then, [to our earthly life] that we may do good deeds: for [now,] behold, we are certain [of the truth]!" 12 And if We had willed, We could have given every soul its guidance, but the word from Me will come into effect [that] "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and people all together. 13 Then taste you (the torment of the Fire) because of your forgetting the Meeting of this Day of yours, (and) surely! We too will forget you, so taste you the abiding torment for what you used to do. 14 Only they believe in Our revelations who, when they are reminded, bow in adoration, and give praise to their Lord, and do not become arrogant. ۩ 15 Their sides give-up rest in beds in order to pray before their Lord in fear and hope. They spend for the cause of God out of what we have given them. 16 And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do. 17 Is one who is a believer like one who is a transgressor? No, they are not alike. 18 Those who believe and do good deeds shall be lodged in the Gardens of Paradise as a reward for what they have done. 19 As for those who defy God, their home shall be the Fire. Whenever they try to escape it, they shall be driven back into it, and they shall be told, "Taste the torment of the Fire, which you have persistently denied." 20 But We shall make them taste the affliction of this world before the greater torment, so that they may retract. 21 And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord; then he turns away from them? Indeed We, from the criminals, will take retribution. 22
