Seest thou one who turns back, 33 And gave little, and then stopped? 34 What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see? 35 Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses 36 And (of) Ibrahim who fulfilled (the commandments): 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 And that man will not obtain anything except what he strove for? 39 And that his effort will soon be scrutinised? 40 then, he shall be recompensed for it in full repayment 41 And that unto thy Lord is the goal. 42 that it is He who brings laughter and tears; 43 and that it is He alone who deals death and grants life; 44 and that He Himself created the two kinds, male and female, 45 From a seed when lodged (in its place); 46 And that upon Him is another bringing forth. 47 And that He it is Who enriches and gives to hold; 48 and that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius, 49 And that He did destroy the Ad of old 50 And Thamud, and did not leave them, 51 and the people of Noah before -- certainly they did exceeding evil, and were insolent 52 And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah). 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 About which, then, of thy Sustainer's powers canst thou [still] remain in doubt? 55 THIS IS a warning like those warnings of old: 56 The Imminent is imminent; 57 Of it, [from those] besides Allah, there is no remover. 58 Do you then wonder at this announcement? 59 And will ye laugh and not weep,- 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. ۩ 62
