Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
