They will ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I will give you an account of him." 83 We granted him power in the land and endowed him with all kinds of resources. 84 Then he followed a way. 85 Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit. 86 He said: As for him who doeth wrong, we shall punish him, and then he will be brought back unto his Lord, Who will punish him with awful punishment! 87 But as for him who believeth and doeth right, good will be his reward, and We shall speak unto him a mild command. 88 He again pursued a purpose. 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun. 90 (He left them) as they were: We completely understood what was before him. 91 Then he set out on another expedition 92 until when he reached a place between the two mountains, he found beside the mountains a people who scarcely understood anything. 93 They said: "O Dhul-Qarnain! Verily! Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog) are doing great mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute in order that you might erect a barrier between us and them?" 94 He replied: 'That which my Lord has given me is better, therefore help me with all your power, and I will build a barrier between you and between them. 95 Bring me ingots of iron." Then after he had filled up the space between the two mountain-sides, he said: "(Light a fire) and ply bellows." When he had made it (red like) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour on it." 96 So they were not able to scale it nor could they make a hole in it. 97 He said, 'This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into powder; and my Lord's promise is ever true.' 98 ۞ And on that day We will leave a part of them in conflict with another part, and the trumpet will be blown, so We will gather them all together; 99 Then We shall bring Hell right before the infidels 100 Those whose eyes were hoodwinked from My reminder, and who could not bear to hear. 101
