And we straitened Pharaoh's folk with famine and dearth of fruits, that peradventure they might heed. 130 But when good befell them they said: This is due to us; and when evil afflicted them, they attributed it to the ill-luck of Musa and those with him; surely their evil fortune is only from Allah but most of them do not know. 131 And they said: Whatever sign you may bring to us to charm us with it-- we will not believe in you. 132 Therefore We sent upon them widespread death, and the locusts and the lice and the frog and the blood, clear signs; but they behaved haughtily and they were a guilty people. 133 And when the plague smote them, they said: 'Moses, pray to your Lord for us invoking the promise He has made with you. If you lift the plague from us, we will believe in you and let the Children of Israel go with you' 134 But when We relieved them from the torment for a given time, they again broke their promise. 135 Therefore We inflicted retribution on them and drowned them in the sea because they rejected Our signs and were heedless of them. 136 And We made the people who were oppressed, the inheritors of the eastern and western parts of the land in which We placed blessings; and the good promise of your Lord was fulfilled for the Descendants of Israel – the reward of their patience; and We destroyed whatever Firaun and his people built and whatever they had contrived. 137 And We brought the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea, and they came upon a people devoted to some of their idols (in worship). They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Make for us an ilahan (a god) as they have aliha (gods)." He said: "Verily, you are a people who know not (the Majesty and Greatness of Allah and what is obligatory upon you, i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone, the One and the Only God of all that exists)." 138 That which they are engaged upon shall be shattered and all their works are vain. 139 He said, "Is it other than Allah I should desire for you as a god while He has preferred you over the worlds?" 140 And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord. 141
