Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And when thy Lord said to the angels, 'See, I am creating a mortal of a clay of mud moulded. 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 The Lord said: "Then get out of here; you are rejected, 34 and will be subjected to condemnation until the Day of Judgment." 35 He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected." 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 "Till the predetermined time." 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 over My worshipers you have no authority, except the perverse that follow you. 42 And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place. 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44
