The 'Aad belied the sent ones. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
