The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 such as play at plunging, 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
