The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
