Those who stayed away (from Tabuk expedition) rejoiced in their staying behind the Messenger of Allah; they hated to strive and fight with their properties and their lives in the Cause of Allah, and they said: "March not forth in the heat." Say: "The Fire of Hell is more intense in heat", if only they could understand! 81 Let them, then, laugh a little - for they will weep a lot in return for what they have earned. 82 When God brings you back safely and a group of hypocrites ask you to make them exempt from taking part in the battle, tell them, "Never march with me and never fight with us against any of the enemies (of God). You chose to linger behind the first time, so this time stay behind with those who are of no help in the battle." 83 And never [O Muhammad] pray for one of them who dies, nor stand by his grave. For they denied God and His Messenger, and died rebellious. 84 Let neither their riches nor their children please you. With it Allah wants to punish them in this life, so that their souls depart while they disbelieve. 85 And whenever a chapter is revealed, saying: Believe in Allah and strive hard along with His Apostle, those having ampleness of means ask permission of you and say: Leave us (behind), that we may be with those who sit. 86 They preferred to be with those who remained behind, and a seal is set on their hearts so they do not understand. 87 But the Messenger of God and the believers with him fought for the cause of God with their possessions and in person and their reward will be all good things and everlasting happiness. 88 Allah has prepared for them Gardens beneath which rivers flow. There shall they abide. That is the supreme triumph. 89
