۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Are we not then to die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
