He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
