The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 in which you are now living 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
