The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
