A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
