The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
