۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They asked, "Abraham, did you do this to our idols?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Thereupon they realized their own foolishness and said, "We ourselves are wrong-doers". 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
