The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
