He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
