Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
