The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
