Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
