۞ And your Lord has ordained that you do not worship anyone except Him, and treat your parents with kindness; if either of them or both reach old age in your presence, do not say “Uff”* to them and do not rebuff them, and speak to them with the utmost respect. (* Any expression of disgust.) 23 and spread over them humbly the wings of thy tenderness, and say: "O my Sustainer! Bestow Thy grace upon them, even as they cherished and reared me when I was a child!" 24 Your Lord knows very well what is in your hearts. If you are good, He is forgiving to those who are penitent. 25 Give the relatives, the destitute and those who when on a journey have become needy, their dues. 26 Verily the squanderers are ever the brethren of the satans, and the Satan is ever unto his Lord ungrateful. 27 And if you [must] turn away from the needy awaiting mercy from your Lord which you expect, then speak to them a gentle word. 28 And do not keep your hand tied to your neck nor open it completely, lest you remain seated – reproached, weary. 29 Behold, thy Sustainer grants abundant sustenance, or gives it in scant measure, unto whomever He wills: verily, fully aware is He of [the needs of] His creatures, and sees them all. 30
