We sent Moses with Our signs to the Pharaoh and his nobles. He said: "I have been sent by the Lord of all the worlds." 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 Of all the miracles which We showed to them the latter ones were greater than the former. We struck them with torment so that perhaps they would return to Us. 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 Yet no sooner did We take away the affliction from them than they broke their pledge. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: 'O my people, do I not possess the kingdom of Egypt, and these rivers flowing beneath me? What, do you not see? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 Why have bracelets of gold not been given to him and why have some angels not accompanied him?" 53 He incited his people to levity and they obeyed him. Surely they were an iniquitous people. 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 and We made them a thing of the past, and We made them an example to later people. 56
