The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
