The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
