Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 Of a related orphan, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
