In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 He submitted, “O my Lord – my bones have become weak and old age shines forth from my head, and O my Lord, I have never been disappointed in my prayer to you.” 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 Hence, [God's] peace was upon him on the day when he was born, and on the day of his death, and will be [upon him] on the day when he shall be raised to life [again]. 15
