(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
