The Spider (Al-Ankaboot)
69 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Romans (Al-Room) before The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 DO MEN THINK that on their [mere] saying, "We have attained to faith", they will be left to themselves, and will not be put to a test? 2 And assuredly We have tempted those who were before them. So Allah will surely know those who are true and He will surely know the liars. 3 Or bethink those who work ill deeds that they shall outstrip Us? Ill do they judge! 4 Whoever hopes to meet Allah, the term appointed by Allah will then most surely come; and He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 5 He who strives does so for himself. Verily God is independent of the creatures of the world. 6 We shall pardon the sinful deeds of those who believe and do the right, and give them a reward better than their deeds. 7 We have enjoined on man kindness to parents; but if they strive to make thee join with Me that of which thou hast no knowledge, then obey them not. Unto Me is your return and I shall tell you what ye used to do. 8 As for those who believed and acted righteously, We shall certainly admit them among the righteous. 9 Now there is among men many a one who says [of himself and of others like him,] "We do believe in God" - but whenever he is made to suffer in God's cause, he thinks that persecution at the hands of man is as [much to be feared, or even more than,] God's chastisement; whereas, if succour from thy Sustainer comes [to those who truly believe] he is sure to say: "Behold, we have always been with you!" Is not God fully aware of what is in the hearts of all creatures? 10 And most certainly Allah will know those who believe and most certainly He will know the hypocrites. 11 And [He is aware, too, that] they who are bent on denying the truth speak [thus, as it were,] to those who have attained to faith: "Follow our way [of life,] and we shall indeed take your sins upon ourselves!" But never could they take upon themselves aught of the sins of those [whom they would thus mislead]: behold, they are liars indeed! 12 They shall bear their own burdens, and other burdens besides. On the Day of Resurrection they shall be questioned about their false assertions. 13
