And to (the tribe of) Thamud (We sent) their brother Salih. He said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him. A wonder from your Lord hath come unto you. Lo! this is the camel of Allah, a token unto you; so let her feed in Allah's earth, and touch her not with hurt lest painful torment seize you. 73 And call to mind when He made you successors after 'Ad and gave you power in the earth so that you took for yourselves palaces in its plains and hewed out dwellings in the mountains. Remember, then, the wondrous bounties of Allah and do not go about creating mischief in the land.' 74 Said the Council of those of his people who waxed proud to those that were abased, to those of them who believed, 'Do you know that Salih is an Envoy from his Lord?' They said, 'In the Message he has been sent with we are believers.' 75 The proud oppressors said, "We reject that which you believe in". 76 So they killed the she-camel and insolently defied the Commandment of their Lord, and said: "O Salih (Saleh)! Bring about your threats if you are indeed one of the Messengers (of Allah)." 77 Then they were seized by an earthquake, and lay overturned on the ground in their homes in the morning. 78 Saleh turned away from them and said: "O my people, I conveyed to you the message of my Lord and warned you; but you do not like those who wish you well." 79 Lot told his people, "Why do you commit such indecent acts that have never been committed by anyone before? 80 You lust after men rather than women! You transgress all bounds!" 81 And naught was the answer of his people save that they said: drive them forth from your city, verily they are a people who would be pure! 82 So We saved him and his family -- except for his wife. She was one of those who stayed behind. 83 We rained down on them a shower [of brimstone]. Then see what was the end of the evil-doers. 84
