Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
