I told them, "Messengers, eat from the pure things and act righteously; I know all that you do. 51 This community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord; so hold Me alone in fear. 52 But they (who claim to follow you) have torn their unity wide asunder, piece by piece, each group delighting in [but] what they themselves possess [by way of tenets]. 53 Leave them in their perplexity for a time. 54 Do they think that We are helping them by giving them children and property? 55 We are busy lavishing on them all kinds of good? Nay, they do not perceive the reality of the matter. 56 Surely those who tremble in fear of their Lord 57 who have full faith in the Signs of their Lord; 58 And those who join not anyone (in worship) as partners with their Lord; 59 And those who give that which they give with hearts afraid because they are about to return unto their Lord, 60 These are hastening on to good, and they are therein foremost. 61 We charge no soul with more than it can bear. We have a record which clearly shows the truth and they will not be wronged. 62 In fact, the hearts of the unbelievers are in the dark because of their ignorance of real virtue; they act against it. 63 Until, when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world, behold, they will groan in supplication! 64 (It will be said): "Groan not in supplication this day: for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us. 65 My revelations were recited to you, but you turned your backs 66 In pride (they Quraish pagans and polytheists of Makkah used to feel proud that they are the dwellers of Makkah sanctuary Haram), talking evil about it (the Quran) by night. 67 Have they not pondered over the word of God? Has something come to them that did not come to their forefathers? 68 Or is it, perchance, that they have not recognized their Apostle, and so they disavow him? 69 Or, say they: in him is madness? O Aye he brought them the truth, and most of them to the truth are averse. 70 Had truth been subject to their whims the heavens and the earth and all those within them would have been depraved. In fact We had sent them their reminder, but they turned away from good advice. 71 Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance. 72 Indeed you are calling them to a Straight Path, 73 And most surely those who do not believe in the hereafter are deviating from the way. 74 ۞ And if We have mercy upon them and remove the calamity which has befallen them, they would still stubbornly persist, wandering in their rebellion. 75 And already We overtook them with chastisement, but they were not submissive to their Lord, nor do they humble themselves. 76 until We opened upon them the door of a severe chastisement. Then lo, in this state they become utterly despaired of any good. 77
