Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ta. Sin. Mim. 1 These are Verses of the manifest Book (that makes clear truth from falsehood, good from evil, etc.). 2 We will recite to thee something of the tiding of Moses and Pharaoh truthfully, for a people who believe. 3 The Pharaoh had become high and mighty in the land, and divided the people into different classes, and impoverished one class, slaying its males and sparing its women, for he was indeed a tyrant. 4 But We have decided to grant a favor to the suppressed ones by appointing them leaders and heirs of the land, 5 give them power in the land and make the Pharaoh, Haman (his Minister), and their armies to experience from their victims what they feared most. 6 And We inspired to the mother of Moses, "Suckle him; but when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him [one] of the messengers." 7 And the household of Fir'awn took him up, that he should become unto them an enemy and a grief. Verily Fir'awn and Haman and their hosts were sinners. 8 And Firaun’s wife said, “This child is the comfort of my eyes and yours*; do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as our son” – and they were unaware. (Had Firaun also said the same, Allah would have granted him faith.) 9 But there came to be a void in the heart of the mother of Moses: She was going almost to disclose his (case), had We not strengthened her heart (with faith), so that she might remain a (firm) believer. 10 And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not. 11 ۞ We had already made him refuse all wet nurses. So his sister said to them, "Shall I tell you of a family who will bring him up for you and take good care of him?" 12 So did We restore him to his mother, that she might be delighted, and that she might not grieve, and that she might know that the Promise of Allah is true. But most of them know not. 13
