A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
