Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
