The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said: O Musa! either thou cast down, or we shall be the ones to cast down. 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
