Alshu'araa' 7 of 11

Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
