He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
