The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and a Book inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 By the House Frequented. 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
