So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 We communicated to him Our decree that the guilty ones would be destroyed by the morning. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They said: Have we not forbidden you from (other) people? 70 He said: 'Here are my daughters; take them (in marriage), if you would be doing' 71 By your life! they were blindly wandering on in their intoxication. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 And the (cities were) right on the high-road. 76 Verily in that is a sign for the believers. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
