Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he fled on the laden ship, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Then bring your book, if ye say sooth. 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship, 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 and we glorify God". 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude). 170 Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us), 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 Therefore turn away from them till a time, 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Our torment seek they to hasten on! 176 But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
