And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 When he showed them Our miracles, they started to laugh at them. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 They said, "Sorcerer, call on your Lord for us, by virtue of His pledge to you: we shall certainly accept guidance," 49 But when We removed from them the affliction, at once they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion of Egypt belong to me, (witness) these streams flowing underneath my (palace)? What! see ye not then? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible (man), who can scarcely make things clear (because of the impediment of his speech)? 52 Why have bracelets of gold not been given to him and why have some angels not accompanied him?" 53 He (Pharaoh) intimidated his nation, so they obeyed him, for they were a sinning nation. 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 and so We made them a thing of the past, and an example to those who would come after them. 56
